Connections & Identity Visibility

elfilming is built around meaningful connections. Unlike traditional social media platforms, we don’t use friend requests or manual approvals. Instead, our unique two-way connection system focuses on compatibility and trust.

Can I See Who Is Behind a Character Profile?​

By default, the answer is No. All users interact publicly through their Character Profile. Your real identity (name and real profile picture) is hidden from other users.

Your real profile only becomes visible after a successful connection is established with another user.

How Does Connection Work on elfilming?​

There are two primary ways to connect with another user:

  1. Connection by Algorithm
  2. Connection by Passphrase

1. Connection by Algorithm​

We believe that great friendships often start with shared cinematic interests. Our algorithm connects you with people whose movie tastes align with yours.

How it Works​

During onboarding, we ask you about your:

  • Favorite movies
  • Favorite directors
  • Favorite genres

As you use the platform, we also record your:

  • Reviews
  • Ratings
  • Watch logs
  • Activity patterns

All of this data builds your Cinematic Profile!

What Is Match Rate?​

You have complete control over your Match Rate setting in your profile.

  • Default setting: 50%
  • Adjustable: Up to 100%
  • User-controlled: You decide how similar another user must be to connect with you.

Example: The Match in Action​

User A (Bruce Wayne): Real Name - John User B (Clark Kent): Real Name - Andrew

If Andrew has his match rate set to 66%, John must have at least 66% similarity in their movie tastes, genres, directors, and activity patterns to be allowed to connect with him.

2. Connection by Passphrase​

Sometimes, you may want to connect with a friend who doesn’t share your movie tastes. For those situations, we provide Passphrase Connection.

What Is a Passphrase?​

A passphrase is a unique string of words that each user creates during their account setup.

  • Create Your Own: Choose a phrase that's easy to remember.
  • Auto-Generate: Use our generator to create a unique one.
  • Private & Unique: This passphrase is for your eyes only.

How It Works​

If you want to connect with someone regardless of your algorithm match:

  • Share your passphrase outside the platform (in person, via text, etc.).
  • They enter your passphrase into the connection prompt.
  • The system instantly connects both accounts.

This method bypasses the algorithm, making it perfect for real-life friends and trusted users you already know.
